The seznam Ash'aris a Maturidis zahrnuje významné přívržence Ash'ari a Maturidi myšlenkové směry. Ash'ariové jsou doktrinální myšlenkový směr pojmenovaný po imámovi Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari a škola Maturidi je pojmenována pro Abu Mansur al-Maturidi. Tyto dvě školy jsou v podstatě jedna. Liší se však asi ve čtyřiceti záležitostech. Tyto rozdíly však sestávají pouze z detailů.[1]
Imám al-Ash'ari i Imam al-Maturidi byli Sunni Muslimové, kteří žili v době prvních tří století po době prorocké zjevení. V sunnitském islámu se rozumí, že nejčasnější učenci měli největší váhu, pokud jde o zapouzdření náboženství, jak to zamýšlel prorok Muhammad. Oba bránili a podporovali přenášené víry Korán a Sunny, jak to chápe mainstream Sunnitský islám v každé generaci před nimi, z extrémů nadměrného literalismu.
Jejich učení a metodologie byly přijaty jako standard hlavního proudu sunnitského islámu jasným obecným konsensem vědecké komunity v jejich vlastních dobách a od té doby v každé generaci. Ash'aris
Ash'aris jsou ti, kteří se drží imáma Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari na jeho teologické škole.

Ibn 'Asakir v jeho "Tabyin Kadhib al-Muftari fima Nusiba ila al-Imam Abi al-Hasan al-Ash'ari " (arabština: تبيين كذب المفتري فيما نسب إلى الإمام أبي الحسن الأشعري, lit. „Expozice výrobních lží v tom, co přisuzoval al-Ash'arimu“) a Taj al-Din al-Subki v jeho „Tabaqat al-Shafi'iyya al-Kubra“ (arabština: طبقات الشافعية الكبرى, lit. „Komplexní biografický slovník Shafi'itů“) uvádí nejslavnější postavy aš'arských učenců, počínaje biografickou vrstvou samotného al-Aš'arího.[3]

Maturidis
Abu Mansur al-Maturidi, který byl ve své době předním teologem a právníkem své doby Transoxiana (Ma Wara 'al-Nahr) v Střední Asie, byl zakladatelem Maturidija teologická škola.
