Thomas Gascoigne (1404–1458) byl Angličtina středověký teolog a akademický správce.^[1] Byl dvakrát Vicekancléř a dvakrát Kancléř z Oxfordská univerzita.

Thomas se narodil v Hunslet poblíž Leedsu, jediný syn pana panství v Leedsu, Richarda Gasgoigna a jeho manželky Beatrix. Thomasovo dědictví po Richardově smrti v roce 1422 mu poskytlo přiměřenou míru finančního zabezpečení po celý život. Studoval na Oxfordu v letech 1416 až 1420; byl vysvěcen na kněze v roce 1427; a byl jmenován do fary Kirk Deighton (asi 15 mil severozápadně od Hunslet) v červenci 1433 (z čehož rezignoval v roce 1443, zjevně proto, že mu jeho povinnosti v Oxfordu bránily v plnění farářských povinností na farě). Udržoval však své oxfordské kontakty a dne 14. června 1434 se stal doktorem teologie, kde působil jako prorektor a rektor univerzity na různých místech v letech 1439-45 a znovu, během přestávky mezi kancléři, v roce 1453. Tak jeho kariéra byla zaměřena na Oxford, i když byl také kaplanem Jindřich VI někdy v období 1434-45; měl krátké kouzlo na farě v St Peter's Cornhill v Londýně od listopadu 1445; a stal se 7. února 1449 kánonem ve Wellsu. 8. února 1449 mu Oriel College udělila po zbytek svého života ubytování bez nájemného. Thomas zemřel dne 13. března 1458 a byl pohřben v New College v Oxfordu.^[2]

Gascoigne sestavil svůj opus magnum, Dictionarium teologicum (nebo Liber de Veritatibus), mezi asi 1434 a jeho smrtí v roce 1458.^[3] V tomto, on reportoval příběh Chaucer Pokání ze smrtelné postele za své literární hříchy.
