Veřejné veřejné prostory (POPS) v New York City byly zavedeny v územním rozhodnutí z roku 1961. Město nabízí územní koncese obchodním a rezidenčním developerům výměnou za řadu prostor přístupných a použitelných pro veřejnost. Existuje přibližně 503 POPS[1] v 320 budovách v New Yorku a nacházejí se hlavně v Manhattan. Prostory se pohybují od prodloužených chodníků po vnitřní atria s posezením a vybavením. Mezinárodní pozornost byla POPS věnována během Obsadit Wall Street hnutí začalo v roce 2011 v Park Zuccotti.[2]
