Quetzalia jsou rodem kvetoucích rostlin v rodině vinné révy a hořkosladké rodiny Celastraceae, disjunctly distribuovány v Mexiku, Střední Americe a Brazílii. Mohou to být stromy, keře nebo liány. Cyrus Longworth Lundell oddělit je od Microtropis v roce 1970 převažují nad jeho vlastními nálezy z roku 1939.[2]
