Časný život

Van Perkins Winder se narodil 3. června 1809 v Načez, Mississippi.[1][2] Jeho otec byl Dr. Thomas Jones Winder (1772-1818) a jeho matka Harriet Handy (1786-1820).[1][3] Byl potomkem plukovníka Nathaniel Littleton (1605-1654).[3]

Kariéra

Winder získal Plantáž Ducros v Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana v roce 1845.[4][5] Téhož roku koupil otroky od Thomas Butler.[6]

Osobní život

Oženil se s Martou Grundyovou,[2] dcera Felix Grundy.[7] V roce 1860 vlastnila 202 otroků a 4550 akrů půdy.[8]

Smrt

Zemřel na žlutá zimnice 8. listopadu 1854 na jeho Ducross Plantation v Louisianě.[1][2][9] Byl pohřben na Hřbitov v Nashville City v Nashville, Tennessee po boku své manželky.[2]
