Polyphylla je rod z scarab brouk zahrnuje více než 80 druhů distribuovaných v Severní a Střední Americe, jižní a střední Evropě, severní Africe a jižní Asii - od Malé Asie po Japonsko. Obvykle pobývají v lesích a sadech, přičemž většina je identifikována bílou barvou elytra šupiny tvořící pruhy. Dospělí brouci jsou často přitahováni světly. Polyphylla kladou vajíčka na půdu poblíž rostlin, odkud larvy vylíhnou a zahrabávají se ke kořenům, kterými se budou živit. Dosáhnou dospělosti za dva až tři roky.
