John byl synem William Comyn, lord Badenoch a jeho první manželka Sarah Fitzhugh. Comyn se stal hraběm z Anguse, jure uxoris jeho manželky Matildy, dědičky Máel Coluim, hrabě z Anguse. Zemřel v roce 1242 ve Francii během krále Henry III Anglie je expedice do Poitou.[1] John zemřel bez problémů.[2]
