Hugh Mackay z Bighouse byl skotský šlechtic, voják a člen Klan Mackay, a Skotský klan z Skotská vysočina.
Časný život
Hugh Mackay byl nejstarší syn z druhého manželství svého otce, George Mackay, 3. lord Reay Janet, dceři Johna Sinclaira z Ulbsteru, Věrnost.[1]
Vojenská kariéra
Během Jacobite povstání 1745 Hugh Mackay podporoval britsko-hannoverskou vládu a byl kapitánem 2. Mackaye Nezávislá společnost Highland který bojoval u Šarvátka jazyka dne 25. března 1746,[2] kde byly peníze a zásoby zajaty z francouzské lodi,[3] a 156 Jacobitů bylo zajato.[4] Vedl také svou nezávislou společnost v Bitva o Littleferry dne 15. dubna 1746, kde byli Jacobité opět zcela poraženi.[5] Jeho nezávislá společnost byla rovněž zapojena do Nájezdy na Lochaber a Shiramore.[6] Později byl podplukovníkem 1. sutherlandského pluku.[1]
Rodina
Hugh Mackay se oženil v roce 1728 s Elizabeth, nejstarší dcerou a spoludědičkou George Mackaye z Bighouse (a odtud Hugh převzal jeho označení) a 28. února 1742 měl sasinu Bighouse Estate ve Strathhallade.[1] Hugh Mackay z Bighouse se za druhé oženil s Isabellou, dcerou Alexandra Mackenzie z Lentranu, ale z tohoto manželství nebyly žádné děti.[7] Od prvního manželství s Elizabeth Mackay měl následující děti:[7]
- Hugh Mackay „mladší z Bighouse“, který byl poručíkem kapitána George Mackay ze Skibo Independent Highland Company.
- Colin Mackay, který zemřel v dětství.
- Janet Mackay, která se provdala za Colina Campbella z Glenure, který byl zavražděn v roce 1752 v tzv Appin Murder.
- Mary Mackay, která se provdala za Williama Ballieho z Rosehallu a zemřela v roce 1808.
- Marion Mackay, která si vzala George Mackaye, 5. lorda Reayho
